Looking for a Volunteer Social Media Specialist
Are you creative, digitally savvy, and passionate about the power of social media? Are you looking to use those skills for a good cause — to help preserve a historic Clarington landmark?
The Jury Lands Foundation is searching for a volunteer Social Media Specialist to support our Communications Manager for a two-year commitment. Responsibilities include creating and scheduling content for the Jury Lands Facebook Page and Instagram account, helping grow engagement, assisting with social media campaigns, monitoring public engagement and responding to comments or messages when appropriate, and keeping the public informed of the latest efforts to save and activate the historic cafeteria building as a community hub. Experience with reels, Canva, photography, or short-form video is an asset.
The Boys Training School opened in 1925 and served as ‘Camp 30’ Prisoner of War Camp for German officers during the Second World War. As Bowmanville has grown, the Municipality of Clarington and community members have worked to preserve and repurpose these historically designated buildings. The Municipality currently owns the cafeteria building, in future other buildings may be transferred to the Municipality.
The Jury Lands Foundation (JLF) is dedicated to the protection, revitalization and interpretation of the former Camp 30/Boys’ Training School (BTS) National Heritage Site in Bowmanville, Ontario. The JLF has been meeting, planning, advocating and collaborating diligently to try and bring the history of BTS/Camp 30 to the community for over a decade! We have been working to keep the Jury Lands in the minds of the community. The cafeteria building has been turned over to the Municipality of Clarington and we are pursuing its animation as an events space.
If you love local history and social media and are ready to make a difference, we’d love to meet you. Email your resume to info@jurylandsfoundation.com to apply.
