Assistants will act as Festival greeters, provide directions and answer questions from the public, assist the public entering the event space for musical shows, assist staff in the Maker's Space and monitor use of equipment, assist organizations hosting activities, take photographs of the event, and provide set-up and take-down assistance for participating organizations. Volunteers will be actively engaging with the public, and must be willing to fill in for all roles as required. Duties: Watering all flower beds and potted plants (hanging baskets, window boxes, urns) Cleaning up litter Digging, planting and weeding flower beds and borders Pruning shrubs Checking the health of plants by identifying any pests or diseases Maintaining high levels of presentation Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment Maintaining the Memorial Rose GardenRequirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteer must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check. Punctuality, attention to detail, cooperativeness and adherence to safety guidelines are imperative. Must be willing and able to do physical work and/or lifting items weighing up to 20lbs. Dress code and other professional standards must be adhered to. Confidentiality expected. Professional gardening experience is ideal, but volunteers must have some gardening experience.Additional Details: Volunteers will book their weeks of work in advance for the gardening season. Depending on weather, volunteers may not be needed every scheduled day. Must have own transportation. Must be able to work well independently, with other volunteers and the public. CSA approved steel toe boots are required to be worn while volunteering in the gardens. This opportunity runs May-October, for selected weeks.
